Ninja Land in Nikko

Ninja Land, aka Edo Wonderland, is one of the coolest amusement parks here in Japan. It's located in Nikko which is approximately four hours from Yokosuka. We got to experience this attraction with our good friends, the Cariaga Family, last month in August.

This place reenacts how life was like back in the Edo period of Japan (16th-19th century); days when the Shogun ruled the lands. All the buildings in the village looked very authentic:

All the workers dressed up in the appropriate clothing:

There were street performers:

and even an Oiran Dochu parade where the ultimate geisha walks the streets in a very elegant procession:

There were some interesting theater performances we got to see as well like the Mizugei-za, an ancient Japanese art where ladies perform water magic tricks:

And no trip to Edo Wonderland would be complete without actually watching a Ninja show; where they showed off some Ninja fighting & acrobatics:

The Choshu Domain Daimyo residence was a fine example of a traditional samurai mansion and it also featured some true historical incidents during the Edo period. I only wish they had some English explanations because some of these scenes were pretty gruesome with heads and arms chopped off:

And a recreation of a Japanese Edo period jailhouse where J.R. and I got locked-up:

But it wasn't all gloom and doom, Edo Wonderland had some fun interacting games like an archery range; where I managed to get the bulls-eye once and a shuriken (throwing star) training hall where I hit the target three times in a row.

Japanese checkers:

But Bern and I had the most fun at the Ninja kai kai tei which was a ninja house filled with a number of different illusions that totally played tricks on our minds...We seriously got dizzy the more and more we ventured into the building:

We all had a lot of fun that day at Ninja Land and now Bern wants to go to another famous amusement park here in Japan....Hello Kitty Land! The things we do for the people we love! haha Until next time, Ja Mata Ne!
